You’re a Weirdo, Annie Best

written by Erin Shea Brady

You’re a Weirdo, Annie Best is a romantic comedy/drama that takes a look at Nora Ephron’s classic rom-coms through a queer, polyamorous lens.

The play follows Annie, a writer at a creative standstill who has been estranged from her father since coming out to him as polyamorous a year ago. When one of her partners convinces her to dive into the world of Nora Ephron’s beloved canon, she begins to see her life through the Ephron lens, imagining scenes and conversations in the style of When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, Julie & Julia and Sleepless in Seattle. As seasons pass, and romantic relationships grow and change, Annie is challenged to reconnect with the most precious of the Ephron tenets: family, writing and hope.

Annie Best was chosen as a finalist for the Todd McNerney Playwriting Contest (2022) based in Charleston, SC, and has recently had workshop and development opportunities through the SheATL Festival (Atlanta, GA; 2022) and the Fresh Fruit Festival in NYC, where we were awarded Outstanding Playwright of 2022 and Outstanding Lead in a Drama (Juliet Roll.)
